Welcome to SB Kiteboarding. We are certified by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) to offer kiteboarding/kitesurfing instruction in Portugal. We are a fully licensed and insured kitesurfing school and are officially registered.

All our instructors speak English, Spanish and Portuguese fluently, are highly qualified by IKO and have several years’experience in teaching of kitesurfing. Our professional and experienced instructors will guaranty you a great progression during lessons and will get you kiteboarding in short time and with 100% of safety and fun!


We teach using modern kite equipment, with the newest security systems. Every student has helmet, harness, floating vest and wetsuit. Everything is included in the price.
SB Kiteboarding offers kitesurfing courses for all levels, also for children over 10 years old. As a safe kitesurfer, you can rent equipment or buy the latest or second hand gear in our Kitesurf School.

Kitesurfing group course for adult (1 day)

Kitesurfing Half Day Taster Course (2,5 hours): Great introduction to kitesurfing, were a good start is essential to your success, it consists in an introductory lesson were your instructor will explain you the guide lines of kiteboarding, that means notions about the wind windows, safety rules and priorities. All based on the land, this is a great taster of the sport and what’s to come, and our instructors then select a kite for each individual student. Then you will pass from the theory to the practice, experiencing first the trainer kites with 2/3 lines and then the inflatable kites, taking confidence with it and trying to control it. A different number of kite sizes are used to maximize your learning and to help build your confidence. Discover the joy of kite flying with this excellent introduction to the world of kitesurfing. Beach, Wind, sand, and kites that`s all ingredients for a great half day of fun. By the end of session, our students will be qualified and certified by IKO Kiteboarder Card.

Kitesurfing group course for adult (1 day)

Kitesurfing Intermediate Advanced Course (2 hrs): You have already passed a kitesurfing beginners course, but you ended up practicing the waterstart? Maybe you want to add a further 0 to the first 10 meters or finally ride in both directions?
Also if you want to train your first jumps, this course is for you! Is for all those that already know how to kite but wish to improve their technique or for those that have completed a beginners course and for some reason don’t practice regularly or feel in need of some more lessons, so you feel safer kiteboarding on your own. The Advanced Course is split into two parts:
Part A: repeats theory and practices. We do bodydrags downwind and upwind. You should be able to control the kite in every situation. Perfect for those of you those have already covered a beginner’s kite course and are at the body drag level or higher.
Part B: is a water start exercise and riding the first meters.

Kitesurfing group course for adult (3 days)

3 Day Full Course – IKO Level 1+2 (9 hrs): This 3 day kitesurf course really starts to turn you into a kitesurfer! This course is suitable for people who have no kitesurfing experience at all and it takes you from complete beginner through to independent kitesurfer.
DAY 1: Know safe wind directions and conditions for kiting, Know hazards on a spot, Set up a trainer kite, Know the use of safety systems, Have basic flying skills with trainer kite, Launch and land the trainer kite with an assistant, Twist and untwist the lines while flying the kite, Walk and change directions while flying the kite, Know the wind window, Set-up a 4/5 line kite with a full de-power system, Pre-flight check of equipment and settings, In flight check of equipment and settings, Understand and use the international communication signals, Launch and land the kite to an assistant and as an assistant (4/5-line de-power kite), Control the kite hooked into the harness, Understand the de-power system and can use the safety systems, Advanced flying skills with the de-power kite, Show full control of de-power systems in flight, Pull quick release and activate leash, Recover the bar and kite.
DAY 2: Enter and exit the water independently and safely while controlling the kite, Water re-launch the kite, First body drag downwind, Maintain correct kite position in the wind window, Change direction to the left and right while body dragging, Recover the kite and bar in the water, Upwind body drag to recover board, Upwind body drag holding the board with one hand, Enter and exit at the same point while upwind body dragging, Know the power stroke for a water start, Know the safety rules and theory for water start, Can put the board on the feet and maintain the correct position for water start, Water starts in both directions and ride a short distance, Come to a controlled stop, Understand weather forecast, tidal- and wind effects, Determine the wind strength, direction and quality, Know the right of way rules, Know equipment set up and choice according to the weather conditions.
DAY 3: We start with re-enforcing the kite assembly learnt on the first and second day. The third day of the kitesurfing course is 100% practical, and this course provides another full day of tuition to really master your board control and become an independent kitesurfer. This third day of tuition offers the extra time needed to become independent during kite launch/land and water re-launch as well as having the opportunity to experience different sea and wind conditions.

Kitesurfing group course for adult (3 days)

Assistant Kiteboarding Instructor Course (2 hours training, plus two days kite/board hire): Becoming an Assistant Instructor is a great way to gain experience to prepare for a professional career, or simply discover what an Instructor’s job is all about! If you intend on registering for an ITC (Instructor Training Course to become a Level 1 Instructor) then this course is mandatory. Assistant Instructor benefits: Access to the Pro Area of the IKO website, Priority over other candidates for enrollment in ITCs, Be able to purchase IKO Kiteboarder Insurance (where available), Be able to purchase IKO products at Pro prices, Access to the job opening listings on the IKO website and post a seeking employment ad viewable to IKO Centers and points. Assistant Instructor is qualified to: Manage the equipment organization and maintenance, Teach one student at a time up to level 1/C (under supervision of L2), Supervise the safety of 1 kiteboarders from level 2/I and above (under supervision of L2). Assistant Instructor commitments: Respecting the standards set by IKO, Renew membership every year, Assistant Instructor prerequisites, Be at least 16 years old (Candidates under 18 years old must obtain parental consent), Be certified as an IKO Member Level 3 for at least 6 months, Have a valid first aid and CPR certificate, Must be able to read and write. Training schedule: Assistant Instructors are trained by IKO Instructors level 2 and above. The training is organized in 4 steps, and is completed in a minimum of 3 days.

Kitesurfing group course for adult (3 days)

Kitesurfing Extended Intermediate Advanced Course:(2 hrs. training, plus two days kite/board hire) 2 days equipment rental with an integrated 1 day Intermediate/Advanced Course. Recommended length of stay: At least three days. In the beginning you enjoy your one day Advanced Course with two hours, for the rest of next two days you rent kite equipment. Notes: All our courses include material and insurance as well as an IKO license in a practical card format in the end of your kitesurfing course. With this license you can rent material worldwide and show your level, if requested. If you already own such an IKO card, but only reached a certain level, we will issue a brand new card with your new corresponding level. Course Achievement always depending on students learning curve.

5 Day Full Course – IKO Level 1+2 10h

DAY 4: We get you setup and straight in the water with your board, concentrating on getting you up and riding as quickly as possibly. This session aims to make you into capable of getting out on your own and being able to keep riding along for a short distance. All done in the water we get you in control of both the kite and board, allowing you to practice retrieving the board, walking safely upwind with it, as well as launching and landing. We also improve your board start techniques and introduce the theory of prolonged power delivery and good stance which are the key to a successful longer ride.
DAY 5: On the last day of the lesson it really depends on the individual’s progression to what level you will be, most people are comfortable riding, some staying upwind, some even doing transition turns. We progress you through as quickly as possible whilst making you comfortable with all of the information and equipment.

Kitesurfing private course for adult (1 day)

Private Instruction (2 hrs): One to one lessons are the fastest ways to learn. If you would like to fast-track your progression, private tuition is the way to go. We progress you through as quickly as possible whilst making you comfortable with all of the information and equipment, so we teach you from the basics and take it right up to getting you kiteboarding upwind comfortably!. After a couple of private kitesurf lessons we can guarantee a result! Your dedicated kitesurf instructor and you will be able to focus on the areas you need to improve in to help you progress your skills to where you want to be, whether you are totally new to the sport or you are looking to progress to the next level. After each kitesurfing lesson you will be issued an IKO card, which denotes the kitesurfing level you have achieved. These cards becoming ever more important as the sport of kitesurfing grows and many worldwide destinations require you to have one of these cards before you are permitted to kitesurf at the beach.
